Get into Teaching
We believe that the best place for trainee teachers to learn how to become excellent classroom practitioners is in schools. We offer Initial Teacher Training (ITT) through a variety of routes where trainees spend the majority of their time in a school environment, whilst receiving high quality support and training. Learning in this way means that trainees feel part of the school community in which they train. It allows schools to grow their own and offer successful candidates a long-term career pathway that goes well beyond Initial Teacher Training.
First rate training programme:
As an Accredited Provider of Initial Teacher Training and a national Teaching School, we provide all our trainees with a first rate professional training experience. All of our placement schools have significant experience in delivering Initial Teacher Training and are able to provide a consistently high quality setting for their trainees.
High quality mentoring:
Every trainee is allocated a mentor who is a subject specialist and will offer personalised support and guidance throughout the year. Weekly mentor meetings will focus on setting short and long-term targets and reviewing progress against the Teachers’ Standards.
Trainees follow a bespoke and carefully devised Professional Studies Programme, delivered by our very best practitioners, one day per week. Training sessions take the form of seminars, lectures or workshops and focus on the development of both subject knowledge and pedagogical expertise. Training covers all eight Teachers’ Standards that trainees must meet in order to receive Qualified Teacher Status at the end of the course. Placement schools also offer a professional development programmes of work search which trainees can access when in school.
Second school placements:
Our partnership provides opportunities for trainees to experience a contrasting school setting in their second placement. Second school placements are organised by GLF Schools’ Teacher Training and take into account individual needs and circumstances.
In order to help trainees prepare for the year ahead and ensure that salaried trainees are able to teach from the start of the academic year, trainees attend an Induction Programme in June. The induction period is remunerated for salaried trainees, unless otherwise specified by the employing school.
Networking and cross-school development opportunities:
Working within a successful partnership of schools provides trainees with opportunities to share good practice and visit other schools, thus benefiting from the expertise of a wide range of highly skilled professionals.
100% of trainees who gained QTS through us were subsequently successful in finding employment and most within our partnership.
How to Apply
There are two opportunities to apply:
- Apply 1: up to three applications (any route), which will be considered at the same time
- Apply 2: open to applicants who were not successful through Apply 1. Applicants make one choice at a time, which will be considered sequentially. Apply 1 will continue to run for new applicants
All decisions will be communicated within 40 working days of application.
Candidates whose initial application is successful will be invited for a whole day selection process at Glyn School or in one of our partner schools. As GLF Schools’ Teacher Training recruits trainees on behalf of a number of partner schools, successful candidates will be expected to spend at least one day in the school offering a place, prior to a firm offer being made.
School experience is essential if considering training to be a teacher.
Bespoke School Experience
We also offer a two-day Bespoke School Experience Programme which consists of a two-hour session within a SCITT Partnership school followed by a day and a half of the lesson observations. The initial session covers the following:
- introduction to the different routes into teaching
- overview of the recruitment process and tips for a successful application
- insight into what you can expect from teacher training
- guidance on how to observe lessons effectively
The cost for the two-day course is £15 (payable in advance). Bookings for this route into work experience can be made through: email@example.com
