It is important that each student knows that there are a team of people to whom they can turn with any problems or concerns. Most importantly we want students to feel valued, supported and safe. The Form Tutor is the most significant person in this team as they see their tutees every day.
Form Tutors have groups of approximately 30 girls in their general care and meet them at the start of the day for 20 minutes for structured activities and individual meetings. Girls normally stay in the same form group until reaching the Sixth Form and we try hard to maintain continuity of tutoring throughout this time. The Form Tutors work as a team under the direction of a Head of Year who oversees the welfare and progress of the tutor groups within their year group.
The Head of Year will lead an assembly each week where excellence will be celebrated and key values and contemporary topics will be explored. Students are also members of a House; Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald and Diamond. House Coordinators are also involved in looking after the well being of their students, but their principal focus is to encourage cross-year activities which encourage leadership, team work and community spirit. Students will find themselves competing in sporting, baking, poetry, drama and music competitions, raising money for their House charity and contributing to our annual Harvest and Christmas collections. In addition, we employ an Intervention Team of support staff who are all focused on removing the barriers to learning that some students experience.
This team includes an Intervention Manager, an Attendance Officer, a Student Support Officer, a Behaviour Support Officer and a Careers Officer. If a student has a Care Plan, it will be the Student Support Officer that will monitor this and ensure she gets the medicine or care she needs during the day. The Head of Year will refer a student to the most appropriate person in the team who will then provide support, advice and guidance as necessary. We also have access to a range of external agencies with whom we work for very specialist support for students.
